About Joel A. Grandstaff

FamilyJoel A. Grandstaff was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1948. From early on, Joel has always had a strong work ethic and a desire to serve in the community. While completing his education, Joel worked construction, building houses and doing cement work. He also worked in several local factories.

Joel earned his undergraduate degree in Education from Indiana University in 1973. He then went on to obtain a masters degree in Education from Indiana University in 1977. Joel worked fourteen years as a school teacher during which time he taught six years of elementary school, four years of middle school, and four years of high school. During the summers of his last ten years as a teacher, he worked at Culver Military Academy Summer Camp as an instructor and administrator. But his passion for working with and the desire to positively influence students didn’t end with just teaching.

He was a wrestling coach for 14 years at South Side High and Snider High Schools, and a track coach for three years at Fairfield Middle and Jefferson Middle. In 1986, he was named The Northeastern Indiana High School Wrestling Coach of the year. In that same year his wrestling team placed 3rd in the State.

As well as a passion for teaching, Joel also had a passion for learning and earned a law degree from The University of Toledo in 1990. He then moved to Houston and went to work for Butler, Langford, Ewalt & Hailey, and later Larry Lee and Associates. In 1994, he opened his own practice and began focusing on Family Law. He has 19 years under his belt as an attorney in the great State of Texas.

His teaching and coaching skills have enhanced his ability to make complex legal information easy to understand for all his clients. It is his sincere belief that “Family Law is not a game in which lawyers play their trade, it’s an area of law which has a profound effect on people’s lives changing them forever.”

Joel is happily married to Perri, his wife of 14 years, and resides in the heart of Houston where he pursues astronomy and other hobbies. He is the proud father of two incredible daughters, Sarah and Kate, and the grandfather of four, George, Jack, Henry, and Maggie.
